AeroOS 26R1
Hard real-time OS kernel written from scratch in Aero. RISC-V QEMU virt · 26R birthline · Apache-2.0
What is AeroOS
AeroOS is a hard real-time OS kernel designed for end-to-end interrupt-to-thread latency ≤ 1µs (26R targets). Written from scratch in Aero — a language purpose-built for systems programming.
26R1 is the first official Release, targeting RISC-V QEMU virt. Fully functional on QEMU with preemptive scheduler, timer interrupt, U-mode tasks + syscalls, and Aero-language user programs.
Core Features (26R1)
- RISC-V 64-bit QEMU virt full boot
- OpenSBI firmware integration (FW_DYNAMIC)
- NS16550 UART console
- Physical page allocator + kmalloc / kfree
- Timer interrupt (CLINT via legacy SBI set_timer)
- Preemptive round-robin scheduler
- 30-register 240-byte context frame
- U-mode tasks + ecall syscall dispatch
- Aero-language U-mode programs linked directly into kernel image
Design Principles
- Determinism over average speed.
- Single address space.
- Fast path = zero allocation.
- Interrupts reach threads directly.
- No global interrupt-disable preemption.
- Measurement is first-class.
